Constructing the rocket
I got my first model rocket kit for Christmas in 2020! It was an Estes model rocket which used wings instead of fins to keep itself stabilized during flight. It used and Estes C6-10 engine as its solid rocket motor.
After about a month and a half of on and off assembly of the rocket I finished in around mid February of 2021. We had to wait a couple days to launch because of the weather however when we got the chance to I remember making my parents drive to the local park to help me launch. I remember being a bit nervous but mostly excited!
Launch time!
The first launch ended up going great, the rocket stayed stable during flight and actually went up pretty high. Once it reached it apogee, the pressure difference it supposed to pop off the nose cone then the parachute follows after, however I remember it took a bit longer than expected for the nose cone to pop off. I was starting to get nervous that maybe I did something wrong however it did end up coming off about halfway to the ground...Phew! This was whole experience was super exciting for me and also a great learning experience.
